Every year on 15th July, the world celebrates World Youth Skills Day—a day dedicated to empowering young people with the knowledge and confidence they need to build brighter futures. At Haffenden Training Solutions, we believe first aid is one of the most powerful life skills any young person can learn.

Whether they’re in primary school, secondary school, or preparing for part-time work or higher education, first aid helps young people feel confident, capable, and ready to respond in an emergency.

That’s why we’re proud to offer our Mini Medics and Student First Aid programmes to children and teens across Berkshire and beyond.

Mini Medics (Ages 7–11): Start Early, Learn for Life

Our Mini Medics First Aid course is a fun, friendly, and engaging introduction to first aid designed specifically for primary-aged children.

Children will learn:

  • What first aid is and how it helps people

  • How to call for help in an emergency

  • Recovery position

  • Basic CPR

  • Dealing with minor injuries (cuts, bumps, nosebleeds)

Mini Medics is ideal for schools, after-school clubs, holiday programmes, Scouts/Guides, and community events. It encourages empathy, teamwork, and calm responses during tricky situations.

🧠 Bonus: It helps reduce anxiety in children by showing them how to take action and feel in control.

Student First Aid (Ages 12–18): Real-World Confidence for Teenagers

For students aged 12–18, our Student First Aid course is mapped to the National Curriculum and focuses on practical, age-appropriate training for everyday life.

We cover:

  • Primary survey and emergency response

  • CPR (including AED training)

  • Bleeding, burns, breaks, and choking

  • Recovery position and secondary survey

  • Mental health awareness and how to support peers

This course is perfect for:

  • Secondary schools and sixth forms

  • Duke of Edinburgh students

  • Teen volunteers and sports leaders

  • Enrichment weeks and life skills days

First Aid = Confidence, Employability, and Responsibility

These aren’t just tick-box courses. They’re stepping stones to:

  • Greater self-confidence

  • Community contribution

  • Workplace readiness

  • Better mental health awareness

  • Skills that can literally save lives

First aid shows young people that they have the power to help others—and that they don’t need to be an adult to make a difference.

Our Commitment to Inclusive Youth Training

We ensure every learner feels supported. Our sessions are accessible to:

  • Neurodivergent learners

  • Students with special educational needs

  • English language learners

  • Students who may feel anxious about participation

We use visuals, role play, and hands-on activities to build understanding and confidence, no matter the learner’s background or experience.

The Importance of First Aid Skills in Everyday Life

First aid skills are not just for emergencies. They can be applied in everyday situations. Imagine a friend who trips and falls during a game. Knowing how to respond can make a huge difference. It’s about being prepared and knowing what to do when it counts.

Building a Safer Community

When young people learn first aid, they become valuable members of their communities. They can assist in schools, at sports events, and in their neighbourhoods. This training fosters a sense of responsibility and encourages them to look out for one another.

Empowering Youth Through Knowledge

Knowledge is power. By equipping young people with first aid skills, we empower them to take charge in emergencies. They learn to assess situations, make decisions, and act quickly. This empowerment can lead to increased self-esteem and a sense of belonging.

Ready to Empower the Next Generation?

This World Youth Skills Day, equip your learners with a skill they’ll carry for life. Whether it’s a Mini Medics workshop or a full-day Student First Aid course, we’re here to support your school, group, or organisation.
