Each year on 30th June, the world marks the International Day of Parliamentarism—a celebration of governance, representation, and the power of good policy to shape society.

Wooden blocks spelling CHANGE

At Haffenden Training Solutions, we believe that good policy isn’t just for Parliament. It belongs in the workplace too—especially when it comes to health, safety, and inclusion.

That’s why we’re asking a key question this week: Is your first aid training truly representative of everyone in your team?

From Legislation to Learning: Inclusion Starts with the Basics

UK law requires employers to ensure there is adequate first aid provision in the workplace. But what does “adequate” really mean in a diverse workforce?

✅ It means recognising that not all learners are the same

✅ It means understanding different physical and learning needs

✅ It means choosing training that reflects everyone—not just the average

Female Manikins Matter

One way we turn inclusive policy into practical action is through the use of female-bodied CPR manikins.

Historically, CPR training has defaulted to male-bodied manikins. But did you know:

  • Women experiencing cardiac arrest are less likely to receive CPR from bystanders?

  • This is partly due to misconceptions and discomfort about touching female bodies

  • Practising CPR on female torsos helps break that barrier and builds confidence

At Haffenden Training Solutions, we believe every body should be represented in training. That’s why we include both male and female CPR manikins in our sessions.

Accessible Training for All

Beyond equipment, we make sure our training is accessible by:

  • Using clear, simple language with no medical jargon

  • Adapting sessions for neurodiverse learners and learners with anxiety

  • Providing visual aids and hands-on activities

  • Creating a supportive, non-judgemental learning space

  • Adjusting pace and delivery to meet each group’s needs

Because no one should feel left out of learning how to save a life.

This Half-Year, Turn Policy into Impact

As many organisations begin mid-year reviews, it’s the perfect moment to:

  • Check who’s due for recertification

  • Review your health & safety training strategy

  • Choose inclusive, engaging providers who support everyone in your workforce

Good policy starts on paper—but it’s only meaningful when it creates real, inclusive outcomes.

Be the Change in Your Workplace

On this International Day of Parliamentarism, let’s commit to more than compliance. Let’s build training experiences where everyone is seen, supported, and equipped to act.
