At Haffenden Training Solutions, our mission is to help communities stay safe — at home, at work, and especially when it comes to children. This Child Safety Week (3–9 June 2025), we’re proud to support the national campaign led by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to raise awareness of the simple, practical steps that can prevent serious harm to children.

This year’s theme is “Safety. Sorted!” — focusing on small, achievable changes that make a real difference in children’s lives.
Why Child Safety Matters to Us
As a first aid training provider working with schools, nurseries, and families, we see just how important proactive safety education is. Accidents remain one of the leading causes of hospital visits for under-5s — yet many of these can be prevented with a bit of knowledge, a watchful eye, and the right preparation.
Child Safety Week is the perfect time to raise awareness and build confidence in managing everyday risks.
Common Childhood Hazards – And How to Prevent Them
We cover many of these topics in our Paediatric First Aid and Mini Medics courses. Here are some quick, actionable tips you can use right now:
Burns & Scalds: Hot drinks cause hundreds of injuries each year. Keep mugs away from edges and never carry a child while holding one.
Button Batteries: Swallowing even a used battery can be fatal. Store spares and used batteries securely.
Choking Hazards: Cut grapes, sausages, and other round foods into small pieces. Supervise meals and playtime with small toys.
Falls at Home: Fit stair gates, anchor furniture, and avoid placing tempting objects where children might try to climb.
Poisoning: Keep cleaning products, medicines, and cosmetics in high or locked cupboards — always in their original containers.
Teach Safety Through Confidence, Not Fear
We believe that empowering children with basic safety knowledge is one of the best ways to protect them. That’s why our Mini Medics First Aid sessions are designed to make first aid fun, interactive, and easy to understand — giving children tools for life.
From understanding what an emergency is, to learning how to call 999, our goal is to raise a generation of confident, safety-aware young people.
How You Can Take Action This Week
Here are a few ways you can mark Child Safety Week:
✅ Carry out a 5-minute home safety check – look for hazards from a child’s eye level.
✅ Review your first aid kit – is it complete and in date?
✅ Talk to children about basic safety in fun, age-appropriate ways.
✅ Consider booking a Paediatric First Aid course or a Mini Medics workshop with us.
